PACFA - The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission
Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners

Dear ATERC members who are PACFA registrants.
The Code of Conduct for unregistered health practitioners came into force in NSW on 1 August 2008 in NSW. As you are aware, certain unregistered practitioners are required to display the Code of Conduct and the Notice to display on their premises.  PACFA would be pleased to provide you with a printed copy of the Code of Conduct and Notice to display in a A3 format (folded to A4). The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission asked for our assistance in distributing these codes to our registrants to ensure that they fulfill their legal obligation.  Please also note that the Code of Conduct is also available in ten other languages for download at

Maura Luxford rides into Melbourne!!
Maura Luxford has completed her epic ride from Kempsey to Melbourne to raise awareness of melanoma and fund-raise for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Check out Maus' wonderful blog and there's also quite a few media links at www.ride4acure.com.au - have a 'wander' round. Also here's an article that appeared in the Herald Sun 28 November 2009  PDF download .pdf
Carol Dyer and Wendy Bignell were delighted to be in Melbourne at the Peter McCallum Institute to celebrate Maura's completion of her Ride4acure marathon. A substantial crowd of family, friends of Hannah and Institute staff were as excited as we were to be there. Carol and I felt we were, in a small way, representative of ATERC friends, all of us who have cried, laughed, supported and contributed to such an amazing journey. Heartiest congratulations to Maura and all involved for such a wonderful tribute to Hannah.'

TASMANIA WATERHOLE
An enjoyable and productive weekend of personal work and professional development was held at “Swanhaven”, Mairin Campbell’s centre at Somerset Tasmania on the weekend of Nov 14-15th.  Vicki Nicholson provided stirring music from her Grof repertoire for the breath sessions which were held on the Saturday . Thanks to the professional and heartfelt response of waterhole members who embraced the inclusion of one of Mairin’s clients in crisis for a breath session.  On Sunday Jan Edmitson led us through a process developed by Parker J Palmer and invented by the Quakers in the 1600s. It is called the “ Clearness Committee” and the group help the person needing clarity to find their decision by asking honest , open questions. We all found it very interesting.   Dates for the 2010 program for Tassie practioners have been set and anyone visiting from interstate would be welcome at our Tassie gathering.

SYDNEY WATERHOLE
The Sydney waterhole gathered (Tuesday 10th November) at Douglas Park, in the Ashram ,away from the main buildings ...out in the bush, "held" by beautiful land and aboriginal spirit....insects buzzing in the background.
There were 8 of us in total. Had been a while since we came together ...It was expressed that it was wonderful to have the precious opportunity to do personal work and reconnect into the support of "community" .....and that we mustn't leave it so long till the next gathering !!!
Chris Chaplin and Mark Hanns who have been part of the Sydney waterhole for a while are being led elsewhere...Chris to Ellenborough and Mark on sabbatical. Jonathon Anstock has also moved on ...overseas to Dubai. It has been lovely to have their energies in the group and of course they know they are welcome to turn up anytime to take a dip or a drink or both !!
A s yet, we don't have a date set for the next time....

Hello, Pat Quinn here. Our 2010 program is now available.
Please check our website for details www.portiunculacentre.com
Lots has happened here at the Port this past year – we had our largest group ever of third year graduates leave us in June and we are currently delivering training to 4 groups. This means the place buzzes with activity on a very regular basis.
Those of you who have received our newsletters would know that I am recovering from a hip replacement which went very well. I anticipate bouncing back into my life and my work here with a new spring in my step and renewed enthusiasm to get on with the job – the job of making sure this centre delivers workshops and training programs that continue to be relevant in today’s ever changing marketplace. Members of our staff are constantly undergoing training themselves to make sure they are delivering the latest up-to-date skills.
So please give me a quick call and I will see if what is going on here at the Port can assist you to get much, much more out of life.
With kind regards, Pat Quinn, Director

Gathering of Minds - Ellenborough
WHERE? The Inner Journey Centre, Ellenborough! WHEN? 23rd p.m. to 27th p.m. September
COST? Share in the cost of food plus $10 p/p per night (to cover electricity etc)
HISTORY: Lynette Fox travelled to Zurich and brought back notes of a lecture by David Tacey. She took the notes of this lecture to the ATERC National Gathering earlier this year. Janine Taranto got a copy of these notes and was very excited about what she read! She then emailed the paper to Wendy Bignell and Chris Chaplin. They have a phone hookup and sharing about what they have read and then Steve and Patricia are made aware of all this!
Patricia suggested a discussion about the paper at the next Mid North Coast Waterhole Gathering. There was just not enough time to do justice to all that is held within this experience and therefore out of that comes this invitation to you! We hope you will gather with us at Ellenborough to discuss and work to allow ourselves to receive whatever the Transpersonal Energy wants of us in these Times. Those who gather will decide on the program. Please bring:-
• bed linen plus the usual stuff-drawing material etc • If you have any special food needs, please bring them!
Be assured of a Special Welcome and also be assured that we will be Nourished and Delight in each other!

Portiuncula - What's On?
Hello, it’s Pat from the Port,
Our quarterly Holotropic Breathwork workshop is coming soon – the weekend of the 5th & 6th September. If you haven’t engaged in Breathwork at our centre before, you need to come on the Friday evening, 4th Sep at 7:45pm.
In late June nine lovely people began the 6 month course “Expanding your personal potential” and they are getting heaps out of the experience, not only are they engaging in the range of modalities on offer, they are also receiving an excellent understanding of the principles involved and benefiting from the support of their group.
At the end of July, twenty-five experienced counsellors participated in the week of Sandplay training and they were supported by an excellent team of 10 facilitators. The course was very well received (as well as the great food!).
The Sandplay week happens just once a year so if you are interested mark it on your calendar for next year – late July.
Check out our website at www.portiunculacentre.com for more information. Or phone 07 4633 1383 anytime.
With every good wish, Pat Quinn.

Maintaining and Strengthening ATERC links with PACFA
At the recent ATERC Management Committee meeting we spoke of the benefits inherent in maintaining and strengthening our links with PACFA as our umbrella organisation. Two upcoming events that the MC would like to support your possible attendance at are
1. Thea is attending the PACFA AGM at St kilda's College University of Melbourne Parkville Vic 22nd and 23rd August. We feel it is important for another person to attend with Thea. Is that person you? Air fare and accomodation will be paid for. Contact Thea directly.
2. The ACA (Australian Counselling Association) and PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) Conference ' Australia Dreaming: Coming Together' (see website) looks very exciting and is to be held Fri 2nd and Sat 3rd October 2009 at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra. Full registration fees would be paid for the first two applicants. A request to post a report of your experience on the website would be the only requirement. You would remain responsible for your fares and accomodation. Are you one of these two people? Email Wendy Bignell if you wish to apply. The Conference is family friendly with childcare and programs for families with and without children.
We await your response, Wendy Bignell

Changes in ATERC Supervision Requirements
Minimum 10 hours of supervision for TERC, now needs to be from a Supervisor trained in TERC. Since we joined PACFA some supervision has been accepted form Supervisors outside TERC. This is still fine for membership with PACFA but doesn't fulfill the TERC requirements.
The following statement from member of our National Body of Trainers explains why:
"TERC is a specialised form of work, potentially dealing with deep non ordinary states of consciousness. This brings in special considerations ethically and practically and it is important that the supervisor be able to think and respond to these specific issues- even if the supervisee is not thinking about them. Modalities such as sand play and body focused work and even voice dialogue are all specialised areas, requiring a deep understanding of Junging principles- otherwise the modality remains on the level of a technique rather than deepening more and more into the underlining principles. Thinking transpersonally and examining issues that may be presenting on that level would seem out of the province of a non TERC trained supervisor. I think that these issues are all relevant for all TERC members and especially for members who are in their first few years of practice."

These new requirements will apply from the 09-10 year.
You will find a List of Supervisors at http://www.aterc.com/members/aterc_supervision.htm and an updated version of the Record of Supervision, Personal and Professsional Development is available there also.

A Gathering of Minds at Inner Journey Centre, NSW
At the National Gathering back in March, Lynette Fox had copies of some lectures given by David Tacy. David is a professor at Monash University in Melbourne and lectures on Australian Spirituality and Ecology. Subsequent to the gathering a few of us have read these papers and been excited by them. We were going to have one as discussion paper at our recent waterhole gathering but decided that we could not do it justice. We have decided to come together for a few days of stimulating conversation that will include how we see ourselves in the current world situation and our vision for the future.
Arrive at Inner Journey Centre evening of Wednesday 23rd Sept. Finishing Sunday 27th lunch time.
Accommodation is limited so first in - best dressed. Please let Patricia know by 1st August if coming.

Portiuncula News
Dear friends,
Recently we had a wonderful celebration here at the Port when 13 graduated from third year Counsellor training and 6 completed their first year. I was sad to see the 13 leave but I am excited at the prospect of their sharing their gifts and skills in the wider community. They are a very lovely group of people.
On Sat week a new group commences the "Expanding your personal potential program" which extends over 6 months. One has relocated from Nth Qld and one from Adelaide as they are very keen to engage in the course. The other members are within driving distance of the Port.
If you are interested in this course and had forgotten the closing date , you would need to phone me ASAP - 07 4633 1383
The last week of July is the week of Sandplay & Symbolwork. Download information .pdf
download .pdf. This course is particularly popular with those in the helping professions. We still have a few vacancies if you want to come or if you know of someone else who would like to attend. I am attaching a flyer with details.
All the best,

'JourneyLines' Opening at Jiggi, NSW
A warm hearted congratulations goes to Martha Calhoun and Dave West on the opening of their new TERC training centre, at Jiggi on the NSW North Coast region, just outside of Lismore.
On Saturday June 6th about 20 fellow TERCies and friends and family joined in the celebrations as Sharon Smith, Gumbayngir Woman, led us in sacred ritual acknowledging the Bunjalung people and inviting those gathered to call "Oi!" and proclaim who they are and where they had come from. Sharon then shared the sacred story of the Fig Tree, before calling us all to step into the purifying smoke and cleansing ourselves with it.
Martha and Dave called us into the new beautiful work-room (built by their own labour) where Patricia Nolan presented them with a blue-glass oil lamp which had been handed on to Patricia by Ahrara Carisbrooke when the former was leaving the Living Waters Centre, Lawson, to take up the work of ERC with Mark Pearson. A wonderful symbol of passing on the light. Martha and Dave also honoured Steve and Patricia with a rice-paper scroll on which was inscribed
in Chinese caligraphy the word "love". This was a thoughtful acknowledgement of the heritage of Dave and Martha's own training.
The hosts invited all the guests to take a glass stone and to drop it into a symbolic well in the centre of the room and to utter a blessing upon the workspace, its builders, and all who will use it. Sharings that touched the heart followed. Dave and Martha shared a little about their experience of building the new Centre and offered sincere gratitude to those who had helped support them to do so. Special mention was made of the support the local neighbours had given in labour and providing emotional support.
The ceremony closed with the proclamation by our hosts of the words "We now declare this new Centre - Open !!"
A delicious repast continued the Feast in a most appropriate way and when that was concluding the ring-master Wendy Bignell initiated great hilarity with a game of toss the pigs! Well peels of laughter rolled across the valley as Janine Taranto rounded the table imitating an animal defying description. Not willing to let the embers of joy die dim, Wendy led us in competition imitating chickens in various states of life!
At the conclusion of a wonderful day, many departed for home, but the TERC guests bunked for the night in caravans. One even survived the cold in a tent.
Sunday, TERC practitioners gathered for their first north coast waterhole
in the new room.
Thanks Dave and Martha for your hospitalilty and for keeping the light burning!

Changes to Applying for ATERC Full Practicing Membership
Dear Members, this message really applies to those applying for Full Practising Membership. There are a couple of changes that needed to be made to the Record of Supervision /Professional and Personal Development document sent out to you recently. I have attached the amended document. .doc download .pdf
The amendments are:-
• the dates which apply to the information we need are 1/7/08 - 30/6/09.
• the Management Committee voted, during the meeting held on 19th March 2009 at our National Gathering, to increase the amount of Professional Development required from 10 hours to 15 hours. This brings us in line with the PACFA requirements, which many members are now meeting anyway.
I apologise for any inconvenience and confusion! Please contact me if you need clarification,
