Portiuncula - Upcoming Events & 2012 Program
Dear friends,
No doubt you are looking forward to a change of pace over the Christmas holiday season. I wanted to let you know about the workshop "Tranforming the 'dark emotions' : Grief, fear, anger and despair" led by Lynette Fox on 21st and 22nd January, 2012. I will paste below the details. I will also give you a brief advance notice of our Open Day on the 12th Februaury - an interesting morning where our staff will be giving talks and demonstrations of some of the methods that we use at the Portiuncula centre. This is a great opportunity for people to have a brief introduction to the progams at the centre. I hope that you can take some time to renew yourself over the comming season and that you have a very happy Christmas. Pat Quinn.

Our 2012 program is now available
download .pdf . (see our website for details www.portiunculacentre.com)

A workshop series for psychologists, social workers, counsellors, guidance officers, child care professionals and parents – for those who work and live with people.

Workshop 1 Transforming the “Dark Emotions”: Grief, fear, anger and despair
led by Lynette Fox

Many of us experience situations in which we come face-to-face with the “dark emotions” in young people and adults. This can be very challenging in our workplace, family or community life. Often we are left feeling inadequate because of our inability to understand and deal with these emotions skillfully. The effect of this can be quite devastating.
How do we honour the basic emotions that are an inevitable part of every life - grief, fear, anger and despair? In this workshop participants will:

- Explore these powerful, and for large portions of the community, frightening emotions and their potential for developing strength, resilience, hope and joy for living
- Experience what it means to ‘be with’ these dark emotions authentically and mindfully
- Investigate techniques which facilitate the transformation of the “dark emotions”
- Develop a capacity to authentically and mindfully feel these emotions in your own life. As practitioners we cannot demonstrate trust in these emotions without experiencing their transformative potential ourselves.
DATES: January 21 & 22, 2012 TIMES: Sat 8:30am – 4pm & Sun 9am – 4pm
FEES: $350 (includes: GST, morning/afternoon teas, a light lunch)
Earlybird payment by: 21st Dec $300
B&B available $30/night; BYO sheets, towel, doona

HOLOTROPIC BREATHWORK 4 DAY WORKSHOP
Hello folks, This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in a Holotropic Breathwork 4 day workshop in Brisbane in February 2012. Holotropic Breathwork was developed by Stanislav & Christina Grof.

Deepak Chopra describes the work of Stan & Christina Grof as a 'groundbreaking new form of self-exploration and psychotherapy: Holotropic Breathwork'. 'Stanislav Grof is one of the most important
pioneers in the scientific understanding of consciousness. He and his wife, Christina, have contributed both to its intellectual and experiential understanding through their work with Holotropic Breathwork".

Warm regards, Wendy Eveleigh

with Judith Dawson and Albert Scherrer PhD and team

Learn how to breathe in a way that will help you remove energetic and emotional blockages, which could be affecting your health and keeping your potential locked up.
This is a powerful tool that, when used under skilled guidance, is particularly effective for self exploration.
This process combines a powerful breathing technique with music to enter into a deep meditative state enabling one to gain access to the unconscious. It can heal past hurts, open up hidden potential and allow your energy to flow freely.
This workshop is not appropriate for pregnant women, or for persons with cardiovascular problems, severe hypertension, severe mental illness, recent surgery or fractures, acute infectious illness, or epilepsy. It is not compatible with the use of illegal drugs.
For those who have not participated in breathwork at our centre, there will be an introductory talk on Friday night at 7.45pm prior to each workshop — this is a pre-requisite for newcomers.

Portiuncula - Upcoming Events
Dear friends, I hope you had a nice break & celebration over Easter. On 21, 22 May we are offering the workshop Four steps to Personal Freedom. This has proved a very popular workshop so we are presenting it again. I want to alert you to Ana Barner’s workshop on 18,19 June . It is titled “Creating Conscious Relationships”. No doubt each of us wants to improve our relationship skills. This weekend is suitable for new and for experienced people. Each year I participate in Ana’s workshops. I find that she is a very gifted facilitator and I always learn a lot. I can highly recommend this upcoming event. On 4, 5 June Albert Scherrer and Judy Dawson will be offering a breathwork weekend. See below for details of these events with best wishes, Pat Quinn

Four steps to Personal Freedom with Pat Quinn and team
Are you able to do what is important to you? Or is your life dictated by deeply entrenched beliefs and roles? This is an exciting weekend which will help you to gain a deeper sense of personal freedom in the way you live your life.
• Beliefs, thoughts, feelings and actions govern
how you live your life. The workshop will help you discover and examine what they are.
• Know how they serve or don’t serve you. This
awareness enables you to decide which of these no longer serve you in creating what you desire.
• The Change Point – Living Differently. We then
examine ways of making changes in how we live each day.
• Being supported during change. We also
consider the ongoing support required to maintain this new way of being.

Bring: Notebook, biro, food to share. Bed linen and
doona if living in.
Date: May 21–22, 2011
Times: Saturday 9am–5pm, Sunday 9am–4pm
Register — Saturday 8.30am
Fees: $210

Dear ATERC members, PACFA has forwarded an invitation to particpate in a research project through an online survey if you are interested or able.

Dear Member Associations, The PACFA Research Committee wishes to foster research into the profession. As a result, we have decided to endorse sending out details of research studies that your members might like to be involved in, when asked to by the researcher. Dear Psychotherapy And Counselling Federation of Australia: The McGill Psychotherapy Process Research Group (MPPRG) has developed an observer rated method, the Cognitive Errors Rating Scale (CERS), to assess cognitive errors in vivo, that is as they appear or are reported by clients or research participants. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such observer rated method. We would like to invite the members of the Psychotherapy And Counselling Federation of Australia to participate in a brief 15 minute online survey examining selected aspects of the face validity of the CERS. No personal information will be collected with this survey. This project has received ethical approval by the Research Ethics Board of McGill University. click for PACFA eNewsPACFA - Can you help with LifeLine Assistance to Qld Flood victims?
Dear Member Associations and Registrants,
Lifeline Queensland contacted PACFA on 19th January to discuss what assistance PACFA could provide to the Queensland Flood Response.
Queensland Department of Communities has an agreement with Lifeline for the provision of a disaster response using Lifeline trained counsellors to work in Community Recovery Centres out in the community. There are 50 centres open at present with 2 shifts of 4 – 5 hours per day. The counsellors provide psychological first aid to flood affected residents.
If the need for Community Recovery Centres to stay open continues into the medium term, then Lifeline resources and available counsellors will be stretched.
We are asking PACFA Registrants who would like to volunteer or work for Lifeline as Community Recovery Officers paid at community sector wages to reply to this email by Tuesday 26th January midday rather than contacting Lifeline directly, as this will only add further stress to their service.
Options include 4 – 5 hour shifts in a local Community Recovery Centre or up to 1 week spent in rural centres (flights provided).
PACFA will provide the contact list to Lifeline with details of your availability.
You will undergo brief induction training and will also have the option of undergoing registered Disaster Recovery training with Lifeline.
Note that Lifeline might not need to use the volunteers, depending on the length of time the impacts continue. However, Lifeline tells us that flood-affected people have been buoyed up until now by community support and locally organising volunteers but these supports are tapering off just as they realise the full impact of their losses.
This is an opportunity for PACFA to be formally involved in the Queensland Disaster Response. We look forward to your responses.
