Lifetime
ATERC Membership
Recently
the ATERC Management Committee was asked to consider a policy of
"lifetime membership" for those elders who retire from
a highly active and significant role in the Association in an attempt
to recognize their highly valued input. At
its last meeting the committee approved such a move. This means
that ATERC would not lose the expertise, knowledge and awareness
of its elders, who have a lot to offer the Association regardless
of their retirement. It will mean that elders invited by the Association
to accept lifetime membership would remain full members without
paying annual fees, and can attend significant events, like the
National Conference, at half the tariff charged to other members.
Thus, we will not lose our crones and sages, but rather they can
continue to share their accumulated wisdom especially at times of
decision-making. So, on behalf of the Association the committee
has formally invited Patricia Nolan to accept a “lifetime
membership” in ATERC. Since her retirement last year many
members of the Association have had the opportunity to thank Patricia
and affirm the growth and goodness she has helped bring to birth
in them. We wish to acknowledge her being a ‘pioneer’
in the work we share in, a founder for us in the Association, and
a custodian of “the energy” in its abundance. While
we honour Patricia's choice to retire, we also hope that she will
continue to support the movement of the energy as it guides the
Association in the future. posted

What does it mean to be in the infinite
nature of now?
“It
comes like a gentle dew” (Isaiah 45:8). Isn't that what so
many of your Christmas cards are going to say and what the readings
from the Old Testament say during Advent? Grace comes when you stop
being preoccupied and stop thinking that by your own meddling, managing
and manufacturing you can create it. We're trained to be managers,
to organize life, to make things happen. That's what's built our
culture, and it's not all bad. But if you transfer that to the spiritual
life, it's pure heresy. It doesn't work. You can't manage and maneuver
and manipulate spiritual energy. It's a matter of letting go. It's
a matter of getting the self out of the way, and becoming smaller,
as John the Baptist said. It's a matter of the great kenosis, as
Paul talks about in Philippians 2:6-11, the emptying of the self
so that there's room for another. It's very hard for us not to fix
and manage life and to wait upon it, "like a gentle dew."
Are we to be passive? No; very much the opposite. When Buddha asked
a question similar to the one Jesus asked, "Who do people say
that I am?" his disciples all gave reasons "Oh, you're
this, you’re that." The Buddha replied, "I am awake."
To be awake is to be vigilant and active. from Preparing for

ATERC
National Conference 2007
There was a sad farewell to Star of the Sea Centre Yamba, when around
thirty ATERC members attended the 7th National Conference between
5 - 9 September this year. All that said and done it was a great
conference with some excellent input and process led by some of
our newer members. From becoming like snowflakes to chanting African
rhythms this conference had it all. Texts and photographs can be
downloaded from the member's section of this site. posted 30/09/2007.
